Pattern Play

April 2025 Release from Concord & 9th

The Pattern Play die set is part of the April 2025 release from Concord & 9th, and one of the products I was most excited about when I saw what was coming! To see the whole new release, take a look at this link here.

Techniques:

  • Of course, this had to use the two new colors I was most excited about. I used the cover panel die on A2 sized pieces of both Brickyard and Pimento.

  • After deciding where I wanted the color split to be, I trimmed the Pimento panel carefully between the two rows, and attached it to the Brickyard one, making sure that everything lined up just right.

    • TIP: When lining something like this up, I focus on where it matters most - in this case that was the “seam” where the two colors meet. If something was slightly off on the edges I knew I could trim that down so it wasn’t an issue. Which I did have to do.

  • I used the various shape dies to cut pieces from both colors of cardstock, and added in some from Wildberry also. I wanted some color play along with the Pattern Play. Having a third color in this analogous color series helped ground it all.

  • Selecting a variety of shapes to use from the three colors, and varying the placement of them in the rows and columns on the card panel adds interest. Stacking a few of them up adds to the depth and texture in the design also, which enhances and plays off the great stitched pattern from the cover plate die.

    • A couple of the things I did here to create a good rhythm with the shapes that wasn’t busy feeling were to

      • group placement - each of the three color pieces are generally a grouping of three that flow together well. Two are closer together with one slightly more offset.

      • alignment - While none of the three color groups are perfectly aligned within each other, but there are two main axis points that each include all three colors - one vertical and one horizontal. All three groupings closer around that.

  • The greeting is die cut from white for great contrast against the colors, stacked for dimension, and given a resting place along the grid which grounds it.

  • Three white enamel dots carry on the repetition established with the other groupings, and also help lead your eye from the focal point greeting to the secondary sentiment.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Wildberry, Brickyard, Pimento, Pebble, White.

Techniques:

  • Shapes remaining from card 1 became inspiration for this one. This is a more simple take, with more white space, but shows off the two new colors and the great geometric shapes from this product.

  • The stitched diagonal background is clean and open, adds texture and pattern that is repeats some of the details in the shapes, and adds a dynamic angle to the design and flow.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Wildberry, Brickyard, Pimento, Pebble, White.
