Holiday and Beyond

From Kristina Werner’s Release

The October release from Kristina Werner includes more holiday products, as well as some products that I’m going to be using year-round.

Techniques:

  • This background was very simply stenciled using Midnight ink on Midnight cardstock for a background pattern.

  • I had some outlines of the new Poinsettia Inlay Dies left from another card, and though I could use them without the inlay for a modern poinsettia design. It is hard to see in the photo image, but I stacked die cuts in both Cranberry and Poppy, but offset them slightly so the darker (Cranberry) takes on an almost shadow role.

  • The “Christmas” is white heat embossed, and the “merry” is die cut and stacked a few times for a bold dimension.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Cranberry, Poppy, Avocado, Midnight.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Midnight.

Techniques:

  • Just because these stencils are large doesn’t mean they need to fill the whole background. After stenciling, I trimmed it down to be a patterned band across this A2 card. I did measure before cutting to be sure that the larger gift would overlap the pattern, but the smaller gift would stay below. Sometimes the size that matters in a layout is not about the numbers on the measurement but about how the pieces work together.

  • I knew a black kitty would be tricky to make it a way that the face stamp could still show, so after stamping it in black, I embossed it with clear embossing power for a bit of shine. Then I used a mini foam blender to rub some white ink to the center of the kitty’s face. After adding what I wanted, I buffed it off with a cloth so it wasn’t covering the sweet little face details. (Protecting them with embossing powder also means that they can still stay black, even though I inked that area of the face.)

  • Do you have a small sentiment that you don’t have a die for? Kristina’s Just Talking dies are a fun way to give it a little style when you add it to a card.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Pink Lemonade, Pimento, Sprout, Mushroom, Black.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Pink Lemonade, Pimento, Sprout, White.
