Birthday Cards: One Color Palette, Two Variations

Featuring the Party Time bundle from Concord & 9th

I previously shared a post about the Accordion Card Base dies from this release, but it is really a base that can be used for any product and theme. (And I suspect that more specific add-on sets will be coming, also.)

To see the whole new release, take a look at this link here.

Techniques:

  • This card uses the Party Time stamps and dies in combination with the Accordion base. After picking a color palette of four colors, I stamped the turnabout portion of the stamp set in those four colors on white cardstock.

  • I cut the Accordion base front (outline and oval) and accordion piece out of Peacock. I used the turnabout stamp on that panel with watermark ink, so the fun pattern is there, but in a more subtle way.

  • I only cut one of the accordion side pieces, instead of the two I’d have cut for a full accordion card. This card is going to be a simplified accordion, with fewer inside layers.

    • By cutting that accordion panel in half (along the center score line) it created two more narrow accordion panels with 4 segments each.

    • After folding those two in the standard accordion way, I attached those to the back turnabout panel and the front oval panel.

  • After stamping and die cutting the Celebrate, I added that to the front panel with foam tape along the side of the front panel. (Be sure it doesn’t hang into the oval cutout or your card might stick together.) I know this hangs over the left edge and makes this card longer, but I know that if I mail it I can just put the card in an A6 or A7 envelope and it will fit just fine.

  • The Happy Birthday inside is embossed and I attached it to the background turnabout panel with a simple scored pop out support behind it. (You could use the Pop-Out Stacks base dies for this if you prefer.) I created it to pop out 1/4” forward when open, and it bends to the side to fold.

  • I used the triangle die (good for party hats or pennants) to create a trio of pennants, and added those with thin foam tape.

Colors:

  • Ink: Concord & 9th Pimento, Clementine, Peacock, Harbor. Versamark.

  • Cardstock: Concord & 9th Pimento, Clementine, Peacock, Harbor.

Techniques:

  • This card uses same basic color palette, though I added in two additional colors.

  • This one is a more simple version - featuring the party horn and the fun confetti. I cut all the confetti (and the party hat pompom) out of Peacock so they are a subtle dimensional detail on the background. This keeps the focus on the brighter colored feature graphics.

  • I added a few enamel dots in the coordinating colors (Pimento, Clementine, and Oceanside) to add to the festive mood, and bring in some color on a smaller scale that plays well with the tone-on-tone confetti background.

Colors:

  • Cardstock: Concord & 9th Pimento, Sorbet, Clementine, Peacock, Oceanside, Harbor.

  • Enamel Dots: Pimento, Clementine, Oceanside.
