The new Moments In Time release from Simon Says Stamp

The new release from Simon Says Stamp is HERE! Introducing the Moments In Time release. These cards show off a couple of products from this release.

Approach:

I began with this die by making patterns like I think it was designed for, and then had this idea for some fun asymmetric stripes.

Techniques:

  • I had a couple of warm colors already cut with this die, and then added some colors from there to build out a rainbow blend.

    • Rainbows of color don’t always have to begin with pink or red at the top. Start wherever you like.

    • I made sure to have some variation in values and saturation. That keeps the pattern of colors interesting and adds some extra rhythm to the flow.

  • I intentionally arranged them to have an irregular edge on the right side. I wanted them to reach into that white space to create interest, and to provide some grounding for the greeting.

  • The greeting in black and white has a good bold contrast with the colors used on the card base. Adding it with foam adhesive also adds dimension, and also supports the focal point I wanted to create with the greeting.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Honeycomb, Sorbet, Pimento, Watermelon, Wildberry, Briar Rose, Harbor, Peacock, Lakefront, Powder.

  • other: Black Glaze pen, white gouache

Techniques:

  • I had run the die cut stripes off the edge of the first card, which meant I had a good amount of them left over. Thankfully, I’d used a piece of Post-It tape to hold them all together. I decided to try using them on another card, but running vertically instead of horizontal, simply for variety.

  • I attached them to the top of a green cardstock panel, and thought they looked a lot like party streamers.

  • The background needed a little something extra, so I added a subtle pattern. It would have been smart to add that before the paper strips, but I managed to work around them. The smaller scale balances well with the bolder shapes and colors of the die cut pattern.

  • I used the same greeting, but in reverse. This time I also added a stamped and embossed secondary piece to it.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Simon Says Stamp Sage. Concord & 9th Honeycomb, Sorbet, Pimento, Watermelon, Wildberry, Briar Rose, Harbor, Peacock.

  • ink: Versamark embossing ink.
