Socks!
October 2025 Concord & 9th
I have a daughter and a good friend who love to crochet. (Actually, I think I have a number of friends who do.) I prefer to stick with paper-based projects for creating, but one of the new bundles from Concodr & 9th has a fun way to enjoy the patterns and color from granny squares - with stamps and dies instead of yarn!
Techniques:
I wanted to do a clothesline of these cute socks, and decided to spotlight it on a circle.
Creating the circle out of white allowed me to use a group of bright happy colors that really show off.
Each sock is a bright color, with a pattern of white. Keeping a consistent approach like that, even with different colors, creates an intentional look with that repetition of white pattern.
Varying the sizes of socks across the card creates a rhythm that adds interest, and the varying angles create the casual feel appropriate for clothes on the line.
The Quilted Card Front Die creates a pattern that repeats the criss-cross detail of the clothesline, and the stitching of the lines ties in thematically with the socks as well.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Sweet Pea, Creamsicle, Lemongrass, Cobblestone. White.
ink: Concord & 9th Pimento, Creamsicle, Mushroom.
Techniques:
As I was creating the first card, I made a lot of socks in different colors and patterns as I decided how many I wanted and in which colors. I had a lot leftover… so decided to try to create a second card with them.
“Scattering” the socks on a deeper background allows the bright colors and the contrast of the bright white patterns to really stand out.
The card base repeats the Watermelon color used on some of the socks. Because the Watermelon and Juniper colors are similar in value, I wanted something a little extra to accentuate that edge. I used the scalloped frame in Kristina’s Essentials Dies to cut out two strips of white and tucked those under each side of the green band.
The bonus is that the scalloped edge detail also repeats the style of the decorative edge on the tops of some of the socks! Repetition for the win - again!
The white edges also complete the triad of white details: socks, scalloped edge, and the white embossed greeting. Consistency like that helps to unify a design.
Colors:
cardstock: Concord & 9th Watermelon, Lemongrass, Juniper. White.
ink: Concord & 9th Watermelon, Clementine.
