Celebrating 20 Years of Inspiration

Jenn Shurkus is celebrating her 20th year of blogging. That is an impressive milestone! 20 years of blogging ideas, inspiration, and creativity in the papercrafting world we all love. (Which, in her words, is wicked exciting, and I have to agree.) As I discovered this cardmaking world I was drawn in by her amazing coloring, excellent use of color, and some really cool mixed media creations (with the bright pops of color I love).

To celebrate, she is hosting a special Inspiration Party today. It is full of amazing inspiration, and lots of fun - including some giveaways! To find out more, take a look at her post.

my card

Techniques:

  • I started with a background that’s a combination of ink smooshing and some sprays in a yellow-orange-pink blend. I added a bit of Distress Spritz on top (Picked Raspberry), trimmed it down to 4” x 5.25”" so I’d have narrow white mat, and mounted it to a card base.

  • I cut the Holiday Charm Inlay Die out of white and Parsley. (I cut 3 out of white, and then used a circle die to cut the centers out of those so I could stack them.

  • The circle dies were used to trim out that circle around the greeting in the middle of the inlay die, and I also used those on glitter cardstock to create a ring/frame around that greeting. I topped it with an ornament topper die from the Ornament Stamp & Stitch dies.

  • After attaching that focal point, I added more of the die cuts around it, using both white and Parsley.

  • For a final touch and ode to Jenn, I added glue and Rock Candy glitter to a few of the little pieces on the front.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Cranberry and Artichoke.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Brickyard, Pimento, Nectar, Pistachio, Artichoke.

inspired by:

I will admit that I had a hard time settling on which post to choose as inspiration here. So many inspire me in one way or another, but I did settle on this one.

Some of the elements of this design that inspired me are:

  • multi-color inky background - Whether pencil, spray, or inks, I’ve even taken some of her classes to learn these techniques with Distress products. (And to learn how to use some of my supplies! I highly recommend them.)

  • mix of color + white die cuts. Often we do the die cuts in the color, but the crisp white on the colorful background always makes me happy.

  • use of glitter. She is the queen of “glitter all the things”, so I did not want to do an “inspired by Jenn” card without glitter. (This card uses both glitter paper and Distress Rock Candy glitter.)

  • no red. Even though red is a favorite color of mine, it isn’t one of Jenn’s, and if you check out her cards, you don’t see much of it. So I made this Christmas card without red.
