Autumn Leaves
Simon Says Stamp always celebrates fall (and Heidi’s birthday) with a big release celebration in September. As always, this year’s STAMPtember release includes some wonderful new basics as well as some autumn and Halloween themed products. (Even a little bit of winter/holiday.) You can take a look at the complete STAMPtember release from Simon Says Stamp HERE!
Here are two cards showing off the Autumn Leaves dies.
Techniques:
I wanted to mix these oak leaves from the Acorn Bundle die with a shaker card, so I pulled some scraps of cardstock in fall leaf colors and die cut a lot of leaves so I had options.
The A2 Scalloped Rectangles were perfect for creating a shaker window.
TIP: As I gathered the pieces, I planned out my layout on my grid work mat. It lets me play with spacing and position with an eye for proportions and scale, and makes it easier to recreate on a card panel. (I often take a photo once I come up with a rough layout so I don’t forget once I start moving pieces around.)
Inside the shaker window, I backed it with brown cardstock stamped with the Curvy Background stamp. Especially in the small section, the curvy lines create a bit of a woodgrain effect, which continues the theme.
The sentiment is easy, and cut from the Reverse Fall EZ Sentiments.
Techniques:
This card is a more modern take on the leaves. I masked off a horizontal bank on the teal cardstock and stamped the Curvy Background stamp with watermark/embossing ink for a subtle tone-on-tone effect.
I chose five warm colors for the oak leaf die, and lined those up within that space. Overlapping them and varying the angles a bit creates a playful and dynamic feel within that band defined by the stamp and masking.
Acorns and preprinted sentiment strips (see supply list for those Reverse Fall EZ Sentiment Strips) finish off the design and create some rhythm and nice flow through the card layout. These bold saturated colors and the modern layout really make me happy.
