A NEW Release: Friend Like You

The new release from Simon Says Stamp

Approach:

I was intrigued by this lighthouse embossing folder. Anything about the coast, beach, or water always catches my attention, and this is no exception. I like some of the simple geometric shapes within this. When I considered how I wanted to use it, I was sure that we will see some examples with gorgeous coloring - from paints, markers, and more. I thought I’d focus on the shapes more than the colors of them, and keep it all one color.

Techniques:

  • A crisp bright white shows off the details of the embossing folder well, with such clear shadows to highlight the dimension.

  • When I considered adding a touch of color, I decided to focus on the purpose of lighthouses - to shine light from the tower. Rather than drawing in beams or coloring the circles to convey that more, I chose a splatter of Lemon yellow gloss spray.

  • The brand new Solo Smile dies (CZ Design) had the feel I wanted with my crisp embossing folder, and I die cut the word in white also, with the shadow layer in a warm yellow.

  • A mat of light blue cardstock, pulls in that blue our brains expect with something by the sea, and I added some deeper blue shading toward the bottom for a bit of interest and depth.

  • Adding a couple of accent stripes just across that mat layer help tie things together and bring in some nautical stripes to support the theme.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Sunflower, Harbor, Powder. White.

  • other: Dina Wakley Gloss Media Spray - Lemon.
