Elegance & Caring: Handmade With Love

December Release from Kristina Werner

Are you ready? A new release is here! This one is full of amazing patterns, lovely flowers, and some always needed care and support sentiments.

card 1 - framed lily

Techniques:

  • This card combines three of the new products, and seems a perfect way to introduce the release.

  • The gorgeous flower is one of the stamps from the Long Line Lillies. I stamped it in Eggplant on Lilac cardstock, and used the coordinating stencils to add just a touch of subtle color on some of the leaves and petals. Stencils are included for all of it, and it is gorgeous when colored in fully, but I wanted a more minimal color approach here to keep the focus on the lines.

  • I knew the stitched pattern border from the Handmade With Love stamps would work well with the lily, so I created a border using one of the stamps on some Midnight cardstock. I positioned it in the corner, stamped a section of it and added embossing power to that, and then moved the stamp and completed the frame. (I did end up with a small gap in my pattern, but knew I could easily hide that with the floral placement. You don’t even see it on the final product.) The frame ended up being a little shorter than the length of my A2 car, so I trimmed it down to create a lovely inset and mat between the two cardstock layers. (If I’d wanted it to fill the A2, I’d have just started with a larger margin around the stamp. I’d recommend stamping on a slightly larger piece of cardstock, and then you can trim it down as you like around the stamped pattern.)

  • The sentiment is also stamped in Eggplant, just like the lily. I stacked a few layers of the shadow layer together for some dimension.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Midnight and Lilac. White.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Eggplant and Lilac.

card 2 - overlapping corners

Techniques:

  • Because I wanted to create a gatefold with the two patterned pieces, I stamped them on A2 cardstock panels, and then did a partial die cutting technique to cut one side with the die, but left the other full height.

  • By overlapping the die beyond the edge of the cutting mat or plate, the part hanging off will not cut so I can create the partial die cut.

  • I was able to score each to create the overlap I wanted on the front, and have a surface to wrap around being and glue to the back of the card panel. I trimmed off the extra once I had them both attached to the card base.

  • Repetition: Three of a Kind
I often (but not always) like to rmake use of repetition in the layout and flow of my designs. By repeating an element, color, or other detail it helps lead your eye through the design, and creates connection between different areas or layers. You can see that here with the placement of the three gold embossed elements—one on each flap, as well as the greeting.

  • Because I chose the deep color for the card base, I cut a plain white piece of cardstock with the outline die I used on the flaps to create an “inside” for writing a message.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Plumberry, Lakefront. White.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Plumberry, Lakefront, Powder. Versamark Embossing Ink.

card 3 - centered focal point

Techniques:

  • This card is the most straightforward use of the Handmade With Love stamps. For the white focal point, I stamped all the layers in different bright colors and die cut it using the square die.

  • For the yellow background, I used the big corner stamp and stamped it multiple times radiating outward in colors that transitioned from more to less contrast. I used all warm colors to keep it as a background pattern and not so bold that it distracted from the focal area.

  • In addition to the sentiment, I also stamped and embossed 5 small details in white. Placing those at the corners frames the card and focal point, and the repetition and center detail connect the layout through the use of that repetition of both element and color.

Colors:

  • cardstock: Concord & 9th Watermelon and Buttercup. White.

  • ink: Concord & 9th Watermelon, Grapefruit, Buttercup, Parsley, and White.
