Stenciling Hearts & Mixing Patterns

With the January Release from Kristina Werner

card 1 - Hearts & other patterns
  • This started with an arched panel I was stamping, and then messed up. You can see in the first photo that it had shifted while I was stamping it, and one of my stamped impressions was offset. (The arch die is from the Desertscape Dies, and is perfect to center on an A2 card front.)

  • I decided to do some ink blending on it, distressing with water, and little embossing powder to see if I could still use it.

  • I gave it a kind of offset gatefold base, with a curved edge—and more patterns. The plaid stenciling is very subtle with purple and blue inks on Midnight cardstock. I cut the edge using the Essentials Dies (see supplies below) and added the arched panel with foam adhesive.

  • The other side needed a simple and more open pattern to balance it out. Again, I kept contrast low by stamping it only with embossing ink, but I added clear embossing power to it, which pumped up the contrast and added an element of shine. I stamped it only on the right 1 3/4” of the panel, so there is also a blank spot inside behind the front panel for me to write a note in. when I send the card.

  • The real contrast comes with the bright white of the bold script greeting. Two small white die cut hearts help ground the hello script to the arched shape.
