Celebration Cards
Featuring balloons, stencils, and dies from the Waffle Flower August Release
The new Wave Stencil makes it easy to create some gorgeous backgrounds! I love the way the colors overlap and create more variation. (Tip: this is best used with a group of colors that mix together well. Pick groups near each other on the color wheel, as I did here.)
I cut the panel with one of the A7 Piercing Elongated ovals, and then cut a slightly larger white base using the next size up.
I added the stenciled panel with 1/16” thick foam tape to create some nice depth, and used the same thickness on the heart and the sentiment.

Techniques:
This is one of those cards that I didn’t set out to make, but just “happened”. I was actually stenciling a panel to make the first card (above) and stenciled two colors (with graduated saturation) on the first stencil. When I removed it to add the next stencil layer I decided I really liked it as is, and thought that white space would be fun to wrap a sentiment along, so I left it as is. ( started a new panel that I stenciled all of, which became card 1.)
When I came back to finish this one, I thought the heart balloons would be fun to layer over the colored waves, so cut a trio of sizes in coordinating colors.
To coordinate with the color waves, I added just a bit of same-color shading on each balloon, to create just a little bit of visual depth. (And then attached them all with foam for true dimension.)
I stamped the sentiment in gray because it felt right with the soft colors on the blends, and tied that in by using a soft gray bow on the largest balloon.

Techniques:
One of my favorite things about these products is that they are so useful for many types of cards! Especially the Wave Stencil, which is a new favorite for backgrounds. The greetings and even the balloons are good not only for birthdays (which we do all have…) but also for any celebration or just happy day cards.
For this card, I shifted from the warm pink palette to one with blues and greens. I love to do birthday cards in colors that I think the recipient would like, but these are also fun to just do and have on hand in a variety of colors.
COLOR TIP: with the way these stencils overlap, if you want to use one color per stencil layer, my advice would be to pick a series of colors next to each other on the color wheel, so you know they will blend well and not create mud.
I die cut the balloons from colors I used in the background, but they still show up because the cardstock is fully saturated and a bolder, brighter version of the ink blended color. I also added them on foam to give dimension and that bit of shadow that helps them stand out more. A touch of Glossy Accents on each balloon serves as the highlight and catches the light nicely.

Techniques:
For this card I created a shaped front using the Balloon Cluster Die. I scored the top balloon and folded it over the top of the card to anchor the shaped flap, making sure that the bottom of it is the same length as the card front.
Are you wondering about strength so it stands up? Yes, not a problem, because the Balloon Cluster die has a full layer, and the separate balloon shapes you can cut and layer on the front if you choose, so I did that here and that gave it extra sturdiness. You don’t have to add the balloons on the front — there is a stencil for coloring them if you prefer that, but I wouldn’t choose that when doing it as a stand-up flap like this.
On this card I added a touch of white gel pen on the balloons to give them highlights, which also ties in with the white embossed greeting.
